COMPLEX “VERTICAL FARM”

The vertical farm is an open-type multistory hydroponic installation, fully compliant with the norms of urban development, which decorates the urban landscape and at the same time provides urban residents with fresh and safe agricultural products. Hydroponics is a technology of farming without using soil and translated from latin, means «working water». In the absence of soil, using a much smaller area than traditional agriculture, and inventive design, hydroponic technology grow beautiful fruits, vegetables, herbs and flowers, planting them in an inert environment, and providing rich nutrients and oxygen solutions. Researchers in this field have shown that the direct impact of nutrients on the root system can be a more effective and versatile cultivation method than traditional irrigation. Hydroponic technology, being both highly productive, water/resource-saving and compact, at the same time combines all the features of the production process. All the above led to the appearing of «vertical farms» – multitiered hydroponic installations. Traditional agriculture is the largest consumer of land and water, as well as the main source of groundwater pollution and the consumer of fossil fuels. The concept of sustainable cities, of which urban agriculture is an integral part, addresses pressures on rural landscapes, soil and water degradation and reduces human impacts on the environment. Urban agriculture has many advantages. It increases the self-sufficiency of the city, being a reliable source of food, provides access to a source of quality products, is independent of natural and man-made factors, meets strict sanitary standards.
